5 Must-Watch Anime for Winter 2014-2015

05. Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom)
Genre: Action, Comedy, School, Shounen, and Supernatural

Anime Summary: When a bizarre-looking yellow octopus creature destroys 75% of the moon and threatens to destroy Earth next, the world is forced to face this menace tentacle-by-tentacle.
But since not even the full military might of the world is capable of stopping this threat, the weird creature decides to leave his own assassination in the hands of a junior high school class of misfits.

Why it’s a Must-Watch: Coming in as my personal favorite this season, Ansatsu Kyoushitsu is an anime series that I’ve been waiting for since last year.

And much to that extent, I must say I’m loving it right now! The setting, the plot, the humor, the action, and everything – it’s all brand new and awesome! I mean, it’s really fresh on my taste buds and every second of it just keeps me more glued to it.

The art is great, the characters (especially Koro-sensei) are great, the story is great! What more could you ask for? This totally is a must-watch for this season!

04. Death Parade
Genre: Game, Horror, and Psychological

Anime Summary: Life or death, heaven or hell, reincarnation or void – for a departed’s soul, it is these destinations that surely awaits after death.
But in some cases, there are times when a bit more intricate judgement is needed in order to judge where a soul should go. That’s where the arbiter, Decim, and the Death Game comes in.

As the arbiter of the Queen Decim Bar, Decim’s job is to make the souls that comes to his place play the Death Game where he judges the conscience and natures of the players based on their memories and how they play the game.

After which, he decides their ultimate fate – whether they end up in “Reincarnation” or the “Void”.

Why it’s a Must-Watch: At first, I literally had no idea what this anime was all about except for the first impression of “creepy” based on its promotional poster. But then, when I started watching it – I was very much mind-blown! To all of you people out there, this anime is purely horrific in a psychological sense.

Not just that the “Death Game” plays with deepest darkest natures and secrets of human souls, but, that same game finds its way to you to give you a serious mind-boggling anticipation. Watching it would surely make you want to raise a multitude of questions with the unknown.

It’s dark psychological concept and theme is enough to play with your mind…and -if you’re not careful- your soul.

03. Kantai Collection: KanColle
Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, and Military

Anime Summary: With the “Deep Sea Fleet” wreaking havoc in all the seas and oceans of the world, the only ones who can oppose them is a group of girls who are endowed deep within with the power and might of Japanese warship spirits.

They are known as the “Kanmusu” and they are ready to take the water territories by storm and reclaim what rightfully belongs to humanity.

The story takes off with a newbie destroyer joining the fleet. That newbie is Fubuki – a girl who aspires to reach the highest levels of the fleet-type destroyers and be a huge help to the army.

The only problem is – she’s totally inexperienced! But, with an unwavering heart full of determination and will to fight, she trains with all her might to battle the odds and reach her aspirations.

Why it’s a Must-Watch: Just what in the world would you expect from an anime filled with girls and battleship spirits? Well, of course, there’s gotta be humongous action full of explosions and eye-candy scenes! To most, this might look like just an ordinary anime, but, with its ginormous reception, many are taken in with the flow of the waves.

It’s not the density of it, but the gravity! Now, if this anime continues flowing towards the great promise it has, I’m sure that it will render all fans KABOOM with awe!

02. Saenai Heroine no Sodatekata
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, and School

Anime Summary: When high school otaku boy, Tomoya Aki, chances upon a fateful moment with the most unforgettable girl of his life, his inspiration rises up to a hundred percent motivating him to create a game based on the girl and his memory of their destined encounter.

With colorful ideas set in his mind, he asks the help of his two immensely popular yet aloof friends, Eriri and Utaha, to help him in his project; much to their reluctance.

And then, on the afternoon of their first project meeting, Tomoya Aki once again fatefully stumbles upon the girl of his inspiration. All along, the girl was one of his classmates; much to his overblown surprise.

And thus starts the story of a cliched yet at the same time unusual and seemingly surreal romantic-comedy.

Why it’s a Must-Watch: With all the overly-scratched romantic-comedy-harem anime out there, I’m beginning to think that this one is looking different from all of them. I just hope that this would be the case since the first episode seemed to be leading to that very extravagant expectation.

I mean, there was already a “twist” in the beginning; and that’s what I was looking for. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed now that it continues like that. After all, the characters and the plot (as well as the overall details and production) are more than decent enough to classify this one as different and grander than the other anime of the same genre.

01. Seiken Tsukai no World Break

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Romance, and Supernatural

Anime Summary: In a certain special private high school, there exists students awakened to the memories of their past lives. They are known as “Saviors”, and with their reawakened memories comes a power stemming from their past lives’ battle prowess.

Moroha Haimura happens to be a new student in this school, but, there’s something unusual about him. Starting out with hazy to nil memories of his past life, he gradually reclaims them only to discover that he has not just one, but two, past lives. And thus, with two past life memories, he is regarded as an ancient dragon with both the power of a savior and the power of a Kuroma.

Why it’s a Must-Watch: Seiken Tsukai…what?! Sounds like another harem anime, right? But mind you, this one has a really interesting plot up its sleeve.

You might rub it off as nothing spectacular at the very beginning but, it has a potential that’s far superior than the other anime this season.

As far as it’s going right now, I must say I haven’t lost interest yet as it’s starting to pick its pace at an exponential rate where the excitement and the tension is just starting to build up.
